After seeing the amount of plastic utensils and containers in our friends and families houses we saw a need to help inform and protect our loved ones from a hidden health concern.

Our goal is to significantly reduce the amount of microplastics consumed by humans. We want to put a significant dent in the amount of particles released into the environment, in turn leading to a healthier, cleaner world for everyone.

At Lume, our journey began with a simple yet powerful realization: the sheer amount of plastic utensils, containers, and everyday items in the homes of our friends and families. These items, so deeply embedded in our daily lives, carry a hidden health risk that often goes unnoticed—microplastics. We saw an urgent need to protect our loved ones and raise awareness about this invisible threat infiltrating our food, water, and even the air we breathe.

Our mission is clear: to significantly reduce the amount of microplastics consumed by humans and released into the environment. Microplastics, tiny fragments of plastic less than 5 millimeters in size, are everywhere—from the seafood on our plates to the salt we sprinkle on our meals. They have been found in human organs, including the brain and placenta, and are linked to potential health issues such as oxidative stress, DNA damage, and endocrine disruption. Yet, despite their prevalence, many remain unaware of their impact on both personal health and the planet.
